New Chapter Recruitment

Recruitment – the never ending work of getting more new members for your local FBLA chapter. Here are a few ideas to help you get started with recruiting members:

  • Have an after school meeting with something for potential members to snack on. Pizza, donuts, soda, chips, anything to draw more people to your meeting. We all know that eating is one of the favorite pastimes of high school students, so why not use that to get more members to show up to those first few vital meetings?
  • Reach out to members that are likely to join, but may not know about FBLA. Take a few minutes to give a quick, introductory speech about FBLA to your school’s business classes. You can even ask a state officer in your region if they would be willing to come in and talk.
  • Make a video or use the ones supplied on the National Web site to show students during lunches, an assembly, or as you go around to business classes. Talking may not bring people in as much as seeing all of the opportunities that FBLA has for everyone.
  • Coordinate an FBLA week. Some schools have a week where they focus on recruitment. Set up a table before school, after school, and during lunches with brochures and candy to give out to people. Put up fliers and really do everything you can to advertise FBLA to your school. At the end of the week, you can even have a party for all the new members.
  • Design a brochure explaining everything FBLA is about. You can even include past members from your school and some of the accomplishments they have. Sometimes, students aren’t aware of how large the FBLA organization is. Brochures are easy to hand out and quick to make.
  • Utilize your school’s news system. Whether you use daily announcements, a reader-board, or news station, make sure you have up-to-date information in it.
