Greetings Advisers and Happy Wednesday!
This will be your LAST weekly update of the 2016-17 school year – weekly updates will resume on September 1. If you need anything from our team between now and September, we are always happy to help and you can reach us in the office at 206.801.0009 – or I am firstname.lastname@example.org, Dawne is email@example.com, and Sarah is firstname.lastname@example.org. We are all still here throughout the summer and happy to help – we just want to free your inbox of FBLA until back to school is in full swing. We will be represented at WA-ACTE and look forward to seeing many of you there!
Back to School Things to Watch For!
By August 1, we will post the 2017-18 calendar of events on our website. An important thing to watch for is the first annual WA FBLA Adviser Conferences! We will have three regional conferences in September that are dedicated to FBLA adviser training – and they will be completely free! Light breakfast, lunch, snacks, and a plethora of great WA FBLA materials will be provided. The content for these conferences is guaranteed to be beneficial for all advisers regardless of experience level – this year will concentrate on chaperoning tips and tricks, competitive events, chapter operations, and FBLA recognition events. We will do one east, one central, and one west. Clock Hours will be available, and there will be many print resources available only to those who attend in person. This is guaranteed to be an event you will not want to miss – and is free of charge to attend!
As you plan your budgets for next year, please note that the Board of Directors today approved policy that incorporates region dues into your annual membership dues. Starting August 1, membership dues will be $20 per student and it includes national, state, and regional dues all rolled in together. If your region previously had a “chapter fee” or a “per member fee”, those have been eliminated.
As you plan your budgets for next year, the Board of Directors has committed to no increase in the registration fee for SBLC. The cost of housing in Bellevue is substantially higher in Bellevue – the current estimate is $80-$90 more per room, per night (including taxes and fees). Tentatively, this means that Single/Double rooms will cost $785 for three nights; Triple/Quad rooms will cost $815 for three nights. Our plan is to publish the SBLC Guide no later than November 1 with final pricing, and we continue to work to minimize every expense possible – and want to provide transparent and early information so that you can plan for the increased costs of lodging in Bellevue. Again, please take note – these are not increased dollars for WA FBLA – housing is primarily a flow through to facilitate hotel payment and continue to have positive hotel experiences.
Check on your 2016-17 Invoices!
If your SBLC bills are not paid in full (this means payment received) by June 12, a 10% late fee will be assessed, and your past due balance will be reported both to OSPI and your school district superintendent. If you are unsure as to your payment status, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me. Please do note that just because you turned in a PO and an invoice doesn’t mean that nothing slipped through the cracks in your school process – please check (if you haven’t already) to be sure a check was actually cut.
If your NLC bills are not paid in full before you arrive in Anaheim, we will need to arrange for credit card payment on site to get you checked in to conference.
Final Important NLC Notes:
Looking forward to seeing many of you at NLC, many more at WA-ACTE, and getting ready for a spectacular 2017-18 school year!
