Thank you all for your efforts for an awesome SBLC! We are in full swing of preparation for NLC, and this week’s update concentrates on the important things immediately ahead of us.
Please take extra important note: NLC Deadlines are NOT suggestions. The flexibility for changes and updates that we have been able to accommodate for SBLC does not exist for NLC.
Intent to Compete Forms:
If you missed Saturday’s email, here is the link to the intent to compete forms:
Intent to compete forms must be submitted online and they are due at 5 p.m. tomorrow. Please submit an intent to compete form even if your answer in all events is no. Every single school who had anyone on stage in the top 10 in a national event should be submitting a form. Here is the link to submit your forms:
NLC Frequently Asked Questions and Information:
The WA FBLA Travel package is attached again for your convenience. Please note that our package is land only – you are responsible for getting yourselves to and from Anaheim and the conference hotel. Santa Anna (SNA) is the closest airport, but Los Angeles, Burbank, and Long Beach are all possible airports to consider with shuttles available at a fee.
Here are the most frequent questions we are seeing:
Q: If I say yes on the intent to compete form, am I committing that I will travel on the state package and I’m responsible for the financial commitment?
A: Saying yes on the intent to compete form is not a financial commitment. It is, however, a commitment that will block NLC opportunities for other students. Please do take this answer seriously as saying yes when you don’t mean it could be taking opportunities away from others. Saying yes is not an absolute and it is not a financial commitment.
Q: Do I have to use the WA FBLA State Travel Package?
A: For 2017, no you do not. It is optional this year. Starting in 2018, if you wish to compete at NLC, it will be required. For 2017, if you opt to travel outside of the package, you will still have to stay at an official FBLA hotel in an official block, and you will have to work through national FBLA and their hotel lottery. National FBLA requires that all competitors stay at an official hotel or they will be disqualified. Those who do not travel on the WA FBLA package will not receive shirts, spirit items, backpacks, or pins.
Q: Do I have to find my own roommates?
A: If you travel on the WA FBLA package, students should be traveling as quads when possible – and we will pair them up with other WA FBLA student leaders. Advisers requesting double occupancy will be paired up with other advisers from WA FBLA. We will do our best to accommodate roommate requests. Very Important: if you want students in any occupancy other than quad, all students in the room must agree to the higher price, and you must submit complete rooms (i.e. double or triple).
Q: What do I do with my competitive event materials for NLC?
A: As soon as our national competitor roster is published on Monday, I will send very detailed instructions out on what to submit, how to submit it, and how the process works. EVERYTHING this year is online – either a PDF upload or a URL submission. Nothing gets mailed. Your students should be actively working to improve their projects and reports if they are going to NLC – taking into account the feedback they received from judges.
Q: Are you offering Disney Tickets?
A: National FBLA is offering discounted Disney Tickets that can be purchased online. Please visit the national site www.fbla.org – and visit the conference page to find the discounted Disney tickets. You cannot beat the prices they have secured!
Q: Are there discounts available for the part of travel that I have to book?
A: National FBLA has secured airline discounts as well as rental car discounts. You can visit their travel discount page here: http://www.fbla-pbl.org/conferences1/nlc/travel-discounts/
Very Cool News! We will be holding 3 NLC Champ Camps in late May! This will be a premier opportunity for students to really gear up for NLC. We are working on final dates and locations now and will share them in the weekly update next week.
If you did not pick up your exit packet and you are wanting your chapter rating sheets, we did scan everything before SBLC ended. We can email you the scanned forms. If you find yourself with this need, please reach out to Dawne Schmidt – email@example.com – and she can email you the scanned material.
For online testing, YOU are able to go to TFI’s website and download your student scores. Please visit www.techfluency.org/esess/Admin/ and login using WAFBLA as the user ID and the same password you used for online testing to login. If you need this password, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
Once you login, you can go to reports and choose finalists – this will show you scores from everyone in your chapter. You can also view the standards report on each student and see what areas of the competencies they excelled in and what areas they should continue studying.
I have attached the statistics for online testing – high/low/average for your review.
For those of you who had students in the top 4 in MOS, your plaques arrived late to SBLC. I will be mailing these next week. Thank you for your understanding on this!
I will be out of the office tomorrow with very limited availability. If you have an urgent need, please contact Dawne – you can email her at email@example.com or call the office 206.801.0009 and choose extension 2. I will be in the office most of the day on Sunday so that we can publish NLC competitors on Monday. Again, THANK YOU to everyone for your support in making SBLC great – and we can’t wait for the amazing success we know Washington is going to have at NLC!
